What Is a Personality Self-Taped Video, and How Do I Make One? If you do not have copies of your work on tape yet or you are under 18 years of age, we need to see you on video. Simply use a home camcorder for this purpose. I do not want you to spend any money to do this. Have someone tape you in the following manner:
1. Start out with a close-up of your face where you slate your name. "My name is …" Then turn off the camera or put it on pause.
2. Do a full-length body scan from head to toe and back for about 5 - 10 seconds. No longer. Then turn off the camera or put it on pause.
3. Either waist up or close up, talk to the camera as if you were meeting a group of us in person. This is your personality video where you are telling us all about yourself.
4. One way to do this is have a friend or family member ask you questions off camera while you look into the camera and respond as if you were in the room with all the managers here at Midwest Talent. The questions should be created to generate what you want to talk to us about, so we can get to know who you really are. Talk to us about some of the following:
◦ where you are from
◦ a little bit of what you have done
◦ where you have performed
◦ where you are studying currently
◦ what makes you happy
◦ what you like and dislike
◦ your hobbies and real life background other than acting
◦ what you expect a manager will do to help you with your career
5. This gives us a chance to meet you and helps us understand how you would behave in an in person interview with us or how you would present yourself on a casting.
6. Or you can just talk into the camera without someone asking you questions.
7. End with a close up where you state your name again with an ending statement. This is the closing slate.
8. If you want to do a monologue in addition to this personality interview, please do so. Stop the camera after the interview and start up again with your monologue.
9. Review this video before sending it to us. If your face is not lit well, do it over again. The reason for this exercise is for us to be able to see how you look on camera. Also check the sound level to make sure we can hear you clearly.
10. If you do not have a camera, ask a friend or relative if you can borrow their camera.
I look forward to seeing and hearing you on camera.
How Do I Send You My Self-Taped Personality Video? Do not attach a video file to your email if it is larger than 10 mgs.
Send your video via www.yousendit.com, www.wetransfer.com or a similar free video transfer site which allows you to send video and audio files that are larger than 10 mgs. Do not send a video that is larger than 100 mgs. Remember to put a note with your self-taped personality video stating your name and contact information.
Or upload your video to: www.vimeo.com or www.youtube.com and send me the link.
Please do not call asking if I received your submissions. If I am interested, I will call you.
Should I Submit If I Live Outside of LA? Yes. I represent clients in all the major markets.
Remember, we do not pay your expenses to live here. Your living expenses are your responsibility. You will not get a contract that will pay for you to move here. You will come out here gambling with the hope of building a career.
If I Do Not Get Called, Can I Re-submit? If you have not heard back from mr, re-submit one more time if you like. But wait at least six months. In the meantime, if you are appearing in a play, a film or a television show, send me an email with the details so I can look for you. I will be glad to see that you are continuing to gain experience and I may have an opening for your type and talent at that time.
What Do I Look for When Choosing Talent from the Submissions?
• A certain look that we cannot describe. We all have instincts and reasons for the choices we make. Just like when you go shopping for new clothes, we all pick different styles.
• Training. Who are you currently studying with?
• Credits. What have you been doing?
• Talent. Can you act?
• Personality. Do you have interests other than your acting career?
• Fun, Positive Person. Would you be fun and positive with us?
• Marketability. Can I make money working for you? Are you a good gamble?
